Office Office

He reached office right on time, and sat on his desk as usual. He checked his email and checked the data and get on with his work. He had to create some reports so he was busy in them. He got a ping from his manager.

He entered his manager’s cabin after few minutes. Manager was cross with him and furious with team about an email sent by an irate customer who wasn’t at all happy with the work which was done for him. He patiently listen to his manager and gave short answers.

He got out from the cabin and sent an email to his team, there would be a meeting in about an hour’s time. Till the meeting it was the work as usual, at the time of the meeting, entire team moved to the meeting room. He was already waiting for them there.

He told them about the mail from the customer and gave them a piece of his mind as well. He shouted a bit and asked some questions, his team mumbled through their answers. Then it was just a general round of useless tasks and some pats on the backs, some words of encouragement and positive work and all. Everybody came out of the training room smiling and some with sad faces and continued their work.

What else could he do? He was a manager too. What he got he promptly gave to his team as well. Office as usual.

Office Office

He rushed to the office on his bike like every day.

He rushed to the lift and then waited patiently for the lift to arrive and take him to his office on 27th floor.

He waited for the work and then when the work came it came in a burst.

He worked all day taking a 15 minutes break here and then a 30 minutes break to eat something.

He got back and called a customer, the call got longer and longer.

Soon it was way over his out time, but he could not do anything, smiled and continued on the call.

Now it was 3 hours past his scheduled close time.

He smiled to himself it was yet another day in the office.

Lazy Day

He woke up with an intense pain in his lower abdomen.

He didn’t want to wake and it was bitterly cold winter and he would much rather stay in his warm blanket but the pain was too much.

He feared that if he didn’t move now he would wet the bed.

After all it was pain due to Nature’s call time.

He got out of the bed, a shiver ran down his entire body.

Jumping due to the pressure, he slowly made his way to the washroom.

Finally he relieved himself and took a sigh of relief. Now that was relief, he felt like all his tensions were gone down the drain along with his pee.

He flushed and walked out of the small washroom.

He had entire day in front of him, he could go to a movie, read a book, watch some TV or go for a walk.

But then he decided that the day was indeed cold.

He slowly walked towards his bed, got inside the blanket and promptly went back to sleep. He had a dream to continue.

It was a very lazy day after all.

Lazy Day

I can be your Hero, Baby!!!” Sang Enrique Iglesias through the speakers, while I shaved.

It was a chilly morning in January, Gurgaon.

suddenly I sensed movement behind me and saw a glimpse in the mirror. I bent down as a hand holding a knife went over where my neck would have been.

A strange man was inside my house and was trying to kill me. Now I am not a fit man not at all but I am heavy and I can inflict damage. Actually the last part I learned that day.

All the action movies and self-defense sessions I watched on Discovery and National Geographic channels suddenly came rushing to me like I was Neo from Matrix movies.

My assailant had recovered and was coming with his second blow, I held his hand and helped it along to him abdomen. His grip on the knife became lose and I grabbed it and attacked the thief (may be he was a thief maybe not but he tried to kill me) with quick jabs on different body parts till the assailant was dead.

I quickly but silently moved inside the house where the song was still playing which helped mask my footsteps. I feared that there may be other thieves still in the house. My fears became real when I saw another man standing over my wife’s body I couldn’t see any blood so it looked like she was still alive for now. I crept behind the other man and in a quick motion slit his throat now my wife’s body was bathed in blood but thankfully still it wasn’t hers. I quickly checked my wife’s wrist and heartbeat to ensure she was still with me. (Thankfully she was only knocked down)

Next on the list was the room where my parents were sleeping. The door was ajar and little light was slipping in the room through the curtains. They looked to be sleeping peacefully but as I entered the room a hand grabbed me from behind and pulled me out of the room. I twisted but couldn’t free myself the grip of the hand was very strong. Then I remembered I was still holding the bloody knife. I slashed it at the third man’s hand and he finally released me I turned and swiped the knife at the man’s stomach and connected and it was the most disgusting thing I ever saw as blood and intestine came rushing down the wound and the next second the man crashed down dead (Of Course!).

I could hear crying of my little girl but couldn’t see her anywhere. I ran to next room but she wasn’t there. Only place to go I ran to the roof and he was there holding my life with one hand and also a gun in his other hand. He warned me but I was beyond the threats and my heart was pumping with one smooth action I threw the knife and it found its mark as it buried itself in the man’s forehead with such force that he dropped back but not before losing a shot which hit me in my arm and then as the last man went down so did I. (I only lost the consciousness, I became too much for me and adrenaline broke me.)

Was I in the heaven? nope, only in the hospital. Turned out the men I had killed were no thieves but terrorists who had picked my house as the perfect hiding spot unfortunately for them I transformed into an action hero just at the right time for me and my family and the worst time for them. I was hailed as a Hero in the media and I was also awarded many trophies as photo op with various political leaders and I became a minor celebrity for 15 minutes but All I was trying to do was stay alive so that I can ensure my family’s wellbeing.

I was thankful to enjoy one more evening with my family and the song kept on playing softly in the background: –

I can be your hero.
I can kiss away the pain.
And I will stand by you forever.
You can take my breath away.

P.S. – Well the inspiration of the story wasn’t the song, the story came first to my mind the song in the background came later. Hopefully you would like my effort to pen down a slightly longer story and that too an action story which I don’t think I have tried a lot. In short hopefully you would like my effort and also do provide your suggestion for my improvement so that I keep on giving you stories to read after all I want to be your Story Teller.

He sat hunched, huddled in himself in the cold dark night. The train was damp, dark and cold, so very cold. As the wind rushed swooping in through every open crevice everybody shivered.

He tried to read a book for some time but then the lights were turned off and he was forced to doze off but the sleep wouldn’t come. How can you sleep when your body doesn’t stop shivering?

He barely ate or drank anything he just wanted to reach his destination as soon as possible. He lay there in wait – Cold, hungry and thirsty.

Finally, the train reached his station but he was still away from his destination. He got off at the station and made his way out in the cold night of the month of December. He booked an auto and again sat while cold winds attacked him from all the places but he didn’t complain he couldn’t.

Finally, he reached his destination. He paid up the auto and slowly made his way towards the gate. He went up the stairs and rang the bell. The door flew open and then there were smiles are around. He hugged and laughed after a long time. He was finally home.

Day Zero

No one knows how our country went to hell. No one actually knows when did everybody get infected. No one knows how the entire world went belly up. There are only handful of humans left in the world now, spread across different continents and countries. It is like all the zombie stories you have read and saw on TV but it’s the story of India and now it’s no longer a story but reality of our times. I am Amar and I am not actually immortal just a very lucky guy who somehow survived the entire ordeal and is fighting every day to stay alive. I have few other survivors with me, there is no other way to survive, YOU CAN’T SURVIVE ALONE.

This is how it happened, at least according to me. Let’s consider me official historian of humans in India. I would like to call the approximate day when the shit hit the fan as ‘Day Zero’. My best guess is that the super virus was so capable that it could spread through water as well as air, so yeah it first spread through bottled water, somehow the water supply got infected. And I don’t need to tell you how many bottles of water was brought before the Armageddon.

I still remember, I was in Delhi Metro that day when I noticed that almost everyone in the train was either coughing or sneezing. As usual the train was stuffed completely with people stuffed in all the cars. Rajeev Chowk was one of the busiest metro station and as soon as the train stopped there almost everyone stumbled out on the platform and within few seconds everyone was the same. Somehow I was unaffected along with few other people. And then, people started falling, almost everybody was down. And then they got up! CISF tried to stop all the people but few of them were eaten up. I was petrified by the view and tried to run out as all the movies and books came true, right in front of me.

Everyone who could get out ran out of station, I was one of the lucky ones. But the view outside wasn’t much better, Connaught place was in mayhem people were running everywhere and vehicles were abandoned on the road as the path ahead was blocked as well. Bodies were spread on the roads and many of them were missing body parts but they were still trying to somehow get up again. I stared at them with eyes full of horror.

I ran and ran and ran and ran some more, when I was sure that I was free of every zombie behind me that I relaxed. and that’s how I remember Day Zero. I will tell you more in the days to come. Till then Stay Alive.

Day Zero

He was driving home in the evening, saw some guy on the road writhing in pain after his accident.

He didn’t stop and ignored him thinking that others would help him, he wanted to reach home to his family.

When he reached home, he found that his son wasn’t home, he was late in returning from his coaching.

The phone rang, telling him that his son had died in an accident, no one stopped to help him, and everyone ignored him.

He slumped to the floor, if only he hadn’t ignored his son as well, he might be alive today.
